Our Back-to-School event this year hosted at the Parade Gardens Community Center was such a success and we were so happy to provide our favorite kids and friends with all they needed for the upcoming school year!

And that's a wrap! Rise to Education's Summer School was nothing short of a success and we'd like to thank all of our volunteers who made it that much easier and enjoyable to work with our favorite kids at the Parade Gardens Community Center! We had the best time participate in BCH's Fun Day on Friday! It was great to bring the children joy and we definitely had a great time ourselves. Although very late in the semester, we managed to push through duress and fulfill our promises to our favorite kids! We presented the children from the Parade Gardens community center with text books, notebooks and other supplies earlier this week! We can't wait to see what this year holds! Our first major summer project came under way in Parade Gardens on July 4, 2016. The first day of the summer school involved splitting the children at the Community Centre into the appropriate age groups, then assigning two RTE members to each group. We then immediately got to work, planning lessons for the children and engaging them in fun and educational activities. The two weeks that followed were tiring, but equally rewarding! Reading, writing, mathematics and ring games were just a few of the activities we engaged the children in.
On the last day, the children showed us their appreciation by showcasing their many talents in a small presentation. Look out, World! We have some talented singers and dancers in Parade Gardens! We're sad that it came to an end so quickly, but we are confident that we made a positive impact on all the young, eager minds present for the summer school. RTE would like to thank the members of the CDC who ensured the safety and organization of everyone present for the duration of the program. We would also like to thank everyone for supporting, both morally and financially, this worthwhile project. Of course, we'd never want to start our summer off without our favorite kids from Elleston Road Primary! Last week we spent the evening with the 6th grade graduates who all did amazingly in their GSAT examinations. Our members and volunteers shared high school experiences with them and answered any (and every) burning questions that the students had. We also got a chance to speak with many of their parents, who for most of them, were first-time high school parents! It was such a great day and we're so proud of them!
The second day of Rise to Education Week started out with a community walk through Parade Gardens with the children. They showed us their primary school and we learned some interesting historical facts about the community! Once we got back to the community center, the children showcased their many talents for us, such as singing, dancing and speech. The evening ended with the presentation of gifts to a few deserving boys and girls, after which refreshments were served. Everyone had a good time and we can't wait to go back! Yesterday marked the first day of our official Rise to Education week! We started out by having a treat in Fletcher's land which was amazing. The kids put on a quite a show for us and enjoyed having our company, as we did theirs. We're throwing it all the way back this Thursday to our Back-to-School Event from September of this year! Also, check out a few pics from our recent homework center visits. Our Walkathon last weekend was nothing short of successful! The support we received was amazing and we are ready to pursue our back to school event! We were so glad to have some of the students from the Elliston Road Primary School join us! |
