The Parade Gardens treat on Monday was a complete and total success! Aside from the executive members receiving certificates to honor their voluntary work at the community center (big surprise!), the students from the center put on an amazing rendition of the ever-so famous play Cinderella. Their incorporation of the Jamaican culture in this story which originally starred Brandy was well put together and these young and budding actors were amazing! All of the children received their very own Rise to Education notebooks. It was such a fun and eventful evening.

Yesterday, a few our members: Martina Gabriel (Treasurer), Jhodi Webster (Communication Advisor) and Jessica Hendricks (Volunteer), received contributions from Century 21's Sales and Marketing Manager, Collet M. Kirkcaldy. We want to thank Century 21 for contributing to our upcoming events and are anticipating their presence at the treats! We had a great time in Parade Gardens today! All the kids were so happy that the holidays are approaching but were still eager to learn and get some work done! Can't wait for the treat next week.
On Monday of this past week, our new volunteers (accompanied by our Vice President) went down to the homework center for the first time and exclaimed how much they loved the children and cherished the experience. So glad to have them all on board! Yesterday was Nanzie's birthday and RTE decided to take her out for a fun day at the zoo! She was elated and proclaimed that it was the best day of her life. After going through the zoo, we had a little picnic and cut her birthday cake which she couldn't get enough of. It was a great day! Grab a Youth Link and check out an article about Rise to Education and read an interview with the president!
Yesterday, RTE went down to Parade Gardens to their newly refurbished and very impressive Homework Center. The children were beyond amazing and the staff was very welcoming. We all made connections with the kids and got some very funny inside jokes! Can't wait to spend some more time with them every Monday!
We went to visit Nanzie and her mom today! We brought some more text books and school supplies along with clothes for her. It was so refreshing to see her again! Sadly, Pinky wasn't there but hopefully, we'll get to see her the next time we see her! Nanzie updated us on her first week of school to which she replied that she's been trying harder in math and frankly isn't looking forward to participating in any sports. Can't wait to take her out for a surprise treat on her birthday!
Last week Saturday, we all went down to Nanzie and her mom, Kaezia's house where we presented her with most of the books on her book list and other school supplies. With the help of LIME, a school bag and more exercise books were also given to her. We were touched by her beauty and obvious brilliance and definitely grew a bond with her, and let's not forget the sweet Pinky who is just too cute for words! Can't wait to see our new friend Nanzie.
I placed in the LIME web design Summer Programme two weeks ago and was mentioned in the newspaper last week about it. I was rather eager to participate in the programme because as the web advisor, I wanted to further my knowledge to ensure that the online aspect of the organization was of better quality. I really did learn a lot and am very confident with my role in the organization
